We are proud to announce a new interview series called #YaGetMe – a dive into the American Grime Scene to get to know the artists who continue to push their passion and their sound.
We start the series out with a pioneer in American Bass music. He has been featured on the Mary Anne Hobbs show alongside Reso and vocalist Anneka on the Building the Beat series for BBC Radio 1. He is fresh off of his ALL GRIME TOUR and he takes a second to chat with us.
This is Starkey.
Introduce yourself. Tell us who you are and what you do.
I’m PJ Geissinger, aka Starkey, from Philadelphia. I’m a producer, engineer and composer who runs the Seclusiasis, Slit Jockey and NOREMIXES labels.
Since you’ve been in music, who have been your major influences?
I’m influenced by a lot of stuff… grime, film music, modern classical, jazz and other random electronic/synth music. Big into science fiction films and comics as well.
Link me to your Top 3 Favorite songs right now.
What does American Grime mean to you?
When we started Slit Jockey in 2005 our tagline was “Stateside Grime, White Label Exlusives”…. but we quickly abandoned that because in all reality, we were releasing music from people around the globe.
What American Grime artists (producer or mc) do you like?
These producers just happen to be American…
